Lorena Canals Bee — Washable Rug, 115 × 150 cm

A rug that starts the conversation about bees — and that is probably the best reason to have one. The honey-and-grey striped body is made in long pile and is fluffy because of it, the wings are woven so finely that they look almost transparent, and the antennae are dark grey cord.

Why we chose it

• It washes at home in a normal 8 kg or larger machine, whole and with nothing to take off — for a rug where biscuits are eaten and play dough is rolled, that is what matters most.
• Cotton outside and non-toxic dyes: 97% cotton, a base of recycled textile fibres, ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 certified.
• Handcrafted, so every piece is slightly its own — and it looks like a thing, not a roll from a shop.

How to choose

The 115 × 150 cm size suits a play corner or the spot by the cot; it fits a child with a book and a block construction. The 1.5 cm pile is soft but not high, so blocks stand on it. If it is not the only rug in the room, it combines easily with plain ones — it only uses two colours.
